The Government of Manipur offers various scholarships and financial assistance to students with disabilities. Over and above the details enumerated above, the Government of Manipur mandates that for any person to be eligible for the scholarships scheme (scholarship of Rs. 300 per annum to students with mental health problems), the following conditions must be satisfied: a. The candidate must be a Manipuri by birth or a person who has settled in the state for at least ten years; b. The candidate must have been a citizen of India and a resident of Manipur at least for the last six years; c. The candidate must have secured at least 40 per cent marks at the previous annual examination; d. No scholarship will be admissible if the combined monthly income of the parents / guardian of the candidate is more than Rs. 2,000. Go to top 4. Skill Development and Employment a. The Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur has created a special employment exchange window for persons with disabilities. It also provides persons with disabilities with other benefits like reservations in Class III and IV posts and financial assistance to self-employed persons.

Go to top 5. Social Security, Health, Rehabilitation and Recreation a. The Government of Manipur has set up a rehabilitation centre for persons with disabilities. Furthermore, it provides unemployment allowance, financial assistance, pensions and assistance in procuring aids and appliances to persons with disabilities.

3 Indira Gandhi Disability Pension Scheme, issued by the Central Government To assist persons with disabilities in procuring durable, sophisticated and scientifically manufactured, modern, standard aids and appliances that can promote their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation, by reducing the effects of disabilities and enhancing their economic potential. The scheme is implemented through implementing agencies such as NGOs,National Institutes under this Ministry andALIMCO (a public sector undertaking). Under this Scheme, the full cost of aid/appliance is paid for by the government, in case of a person earning up to Rs. 6,500/per month. In case of a person earning Rs.6,501/- to Rs. 10,000/- per month, 50% of the cost of the aid or appliance is paid for by the government.
5 Unemployment allowances For candidates with disabilities who have been listed on the special employment exchange for more than two years but have not been able to find employment.
